HOW OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS ESSENTIAL FOR YOU AND YOUR DOG

Obedience Training is an essential exercise for both you and your dogs. Not just giving the dog owner peace of mind, but additionally helps you to establish a powerful connection between you and your pet.

Dog training can be, with some dogs, hard to say the least. We all have seen of well behaved dogs that seem to understand every word that comes out of these master's mouths. They never misbehave; they never disobey their masters, and are a joy to be around. We see other dogs that do only what they want to do and can appear untrainable.

Dogs are wild animals. Well, at least their ancestors were. What many of us do not understand bring a dog home, be it a puppy or older dog, is that to the dog we not a family, but into a pack. Think about this and the implications towards improving obedience in a dog.

Our pets are a supply of love and affection. You, I, and every dog lover, understands the parental connection between dog owner and pet. But as much as you adore your dog, you must show it leadership. A dog should not view it’s self as pack leader (alpha) otherwise it could be hostile and potentially dangerous.

Your dog provides you with love and companionship, but odds are he also offers you some uncomfortable surprises from time to time, a mess on the rug or even a slobbery slipper for example. Most dogs that are relinquished to animal shelters, or otherwise given up, because of behaviour issues their own families didn't know how to solve. They did not know how to show their dog what pleases and displeases pack leader, in a way the dog understands.

Man’s Best Friend

In home dog trainingDogs are not called man's best friend for nothing. They are enjoyable to be around and are incredible pets. A lot of homes, particularly with young family members, want to own one. But regardless of how we treat them, they'll never be like us. They are never going to learn to speak therefore you need to use body language and tones of voice to communicate with them. As a responsible dog owner, you have the duty to educate them with dog training. Through various exercises, your canine will learn what you want them to do and not do.

Proper training will support your position as Pack Leader.

A lot of problems happen with lots of owners simply because they do not understand just how their pets think and learn. They treat their dogs like children and give them mixed signals. That's why you need assistance from an expert. Dog training is what you need in order to teach your dog to behave the way you want them to. You need to train them and be their pack leader so they know what to do and what pleases and displeases you as their pack leader.

You will need to realize that even though you love your pets, they are animals and they have natural instincts. The strongest instinct in a dog is to follow and please their pack leader. You can change their disruptive behavior in a positive way by teaching them what displeases you as their leader.  Instead of screaming at them, or hitting them, we need to take measures to show them we are never angry at them, but instead angry at what they did. Responding in a negative manner such as screaming will only build fear and they can easily feel we are mad at them. If you love them, show it. It is your obligation as a dog owner to train your dog.

A LEARNING PATTERNS

From the beginning, you, as the dog owner and trainer, must understand what causes a dog to accept or reject or reject training. Over the years we have discovered that, as a general, it is possible to deal with most dogs at the level of a four or five year old child. We must keep this in mind always especially when considering a dog’s attention span. Most dogs have short attention spans.

KEEP TRAINING SESSIONS SHORT AND FUN!

Many people have the mistaken belief, dogs will only respond to tidbits of food as a reward, or withholding same as punishment. I consider that bribery and we do not need or want to always carry treats to get a dog to perform. What your dog wants and needs more than anything else is your praise, your approval. This is what the dog is striving for, and this is what will give you far more benefit than any treat or bribe that you may offer.

The dog’s strongest drive, again, is to please the master and generally the people around him. Understanding this we can see that the best way to get the proper response from a dog is to use this strong drive to accomplish our goals. We must communicate what we find pleasant and not.

BE YOUR DOGS’ PACK LEADER

In the wild dogs lived in packs, they are pack animals. Their strongest drive is to follow, or please their pack leader. This is how dogs were domesticated in the first place. A dog should perceive its owner as the pack leader; the strongest drive is to please its owner. Naturally, dogs want to establish a pecking order within the pack. In a home situation, dogs need only to understand that they are at the bottom of the pecking order for all humans they live with. This is why it is important that everyone who lives with the dog be involved with the training.

Consistency is most important in letting the dog know what pleases and displeases you. Everyone that lives with the dog must be consistent. We want the dog to know exactly what is expected without any confusion.
