Dog training can be, with some dogs, hard to say the least. We all have seen of well behaved dogs that seem to understand every word that comes out of these master's mouths. They never misbehave; they never disobey their masters, and are a joy to be around. We see other dogs that do only what they want to do and can appear untrainable.
Dogs are wild animals. Well, at least their ancestors were. What many of us do not understand bring a dog home, be it a puppy or older dog, is that to the dog we not a family, but into a pack. Think about this and the implications towards improving obedience in a dog.
Your dog provides you with love and companionship, but odds are he also offers you some uncomfortable surprises from time to time, a mess on the rug or even a slobbery slipper for example. Most dogs that are relinquished to animal shelters, or otherwise given up, because of behaviour issues their own families didn't know how to solve. They did not know how to show their dog what pleases and displeases pack leader, in a way the dog understands.
